§ 2-58. COMMUNITY UNITY DAY COMMITTEE.

  • 2-58.1 Establishment. There is hereby established a Community Unity Day Committee which shall consist of fifteen (15) members whose terms and powers are hereinafter set forth.

    2-58.2 Membership. The Community Unity Day Committee shall consist of fifteen (15) residents and/or property owners of the Borough who shall serve without compensation. Each member shall be appointed by the Mayor, with the advice and consent of Council, for a term of three (3) years and until his or her successor is appointed and qualified.

    2-58.3 Powers and Duties. The Community Unity Day Committee shall be responsible for the organization and preparation of annual Community Unity Day events. To that end, the Committee shall report to the Council recommending the type and nature of events to be carried out and sponsored by the Borough with respect to Community Unity Day, together with the projected costs of such recommended activities. After the Committee makes its recommendations to the Borough, the Borough may approve expenditures for such recommended events and may suggest other and further activities to be pursued by the Committee.

    2-58.4 Officers. The Community Unity Day Committee shall select from among its members a Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson to serve as Presiding Officer in the absence of the Chairperson. The Committee shall also select a Secretary whose function shall be to maintain minutes of the Committee's meeting and records of the proceedings of the Committee.

    2-58.5 Initial Organization Meeting. The Community Unity Day Committee shall hold its initial organization meeting shortly after the ordinance codified in this Section takes effect.
